This album in Evening Sky’s Plus One series starts with “Lamont’s Revenge,” a groovy, swinging little number that wouldn’t sound out of place on a Quincy Jones or Herb Albert album circa 1968, with its cheeky call and response melodies, surf guitar licks and funky drumming.

“The River Runs Dry” features Rosen’s aching harmonica as it evokes a withered, Western landscape whose best days have long since passed. Bassist Joe Potenza and drummer Hastings propel “Wait in the Car” with a slinky, falling-down-the-stairs groove as Rosati’s guitar melodies conjure up comparisons to Leo Nocentelli and John Scofield.

The aptly titled “Scene Change” is a short palette cleanser featuring Chris Brook’s ethereal work on the pedal steel guitar. The band ramps it back up on the next two numbers, the power waltz (that’s a style, right?) of “Aftermath” and the up-tempo boogie of “I Didn’t Think So,” which the band and Rosen sweated through many times at their monthly residency in Providence, Rhode Island.

The album closes with the searching ballad “The Last Time I Saw You,” a beautiful compositional statement from Rosati that the band expands on as only Evening Sky can.

I recorded this album at the Auditorium Piaggio located inside the famous Museum in Pontedera, the place where Piaggio was born and where it still continues to produce today.

It is a state-of-the-art recording with no sound manipulation, no equalization, no reverb, no compression and expansion. With natural sound and true timbre to best enhance the acoustics of the Auditorium of the Piaggio Museum. I used a “field effect” recording technique to bring the listener the live effect as if the listener were present at the performance.”

The band describes their music as Post-Rock. Since the first album Pigeon Is My Friend changed their style and in 2022 released an album titled Hope. Through their music the band members are telling stories about their lives and the inner struggles that we all have.

Hope is an Analog Recording that was mastered by Vladas Straupas at AnalogFather studios. The Analog Master Tape was transferred directly to Stereo DSD 128 on the Korg MR-2000S DSD 128 Studio Recorder. No equalizers, limiters, compressors or software filters were used in the album’s production.

Whether they called Louis Armstrong “Satchmo” or simply the “man with the silver trumpet”, millions of people, from Mongolia to Munich, Milano, and Mozambique, recognized the cherubic countenance, gravel voice, and high, rhythmic notes. The music that bought thousands to greet him and hear him wherever he went – the magnetism was, at times, as awesome as his music could be. Louis Armstrong was one of the greatest musicians Jazz ever produced– and few, if any, will argue against this – the greatest.

This album has been transferred from the Original Analog Master Tape to Stereo DSD and DXD by Rene Laflamme at 2xHD Mastering. A Stereo DSD 512 edition of Now You Has Jazz has been prepared by Tom Caulfield at the NativeDSD Mastering Lab.  The album is only available in Stereo DSD 512 at NativeDSD.

The sound of the recording underlines a powerful interpretation rich in timbres and resonances, as Campanella’s interpretation and performance. The program includes Mussorgsky’s Pictures from an Exhibition, Skrjabin’s Sonata no. 3 and the Valse op. 38 (a late appearance of the dance rhythm which symbolizes the 19th century).

VDM used the Hapi Analog to Digital Converter and the Merging+Clock-U Digital Clock by Merging Technologies to record this album in DXD. It is a DSD Exclusive, Not Available on SACD release.
