Gandhaya Quartet is always looking for new combinations, formulas, musical colors and flavors. Combining instruments like the Oud, Guitar (with 7 strings), the Bansuri (from India), Tablas and Vongas (percussion instruments), the ensemble performs both fresh arrangements and original compositions with unprecedented possibilities in rhythms, harmonies and melodies. The music features elements of music from India, Turkey and Brazil.

The DSD EP begins with “Receita de Samba” by Jacob do Bandolim. The Tabla disrupts the typical choro setup composed of Pandeiro, Flauta, and 7-string Guitars by combining rhythms from choro with its fast-moving phrases.

The group then presents songs inspired by music from the Northeast of Brazil: “O Ovo” by Hermeto Pascoal, “Foi por Pouco” by Angelo Ursini and “O Canto da Ema” by Jackson do Pandeiro. The vibe of the DSD EP progressively moves from contemplative to dancing, capturing the essence of the diverse sounds of the Baião.

The DSD EP closes with “Chovendo na Roseira” by Tom Jobim, where the beautiful melody is merged with Angelo’s Flute improvisation and Tarang’s vocal rhythmical improvisation, showcasing the unique musicality of the group.
