This is a very special album. Time travelling to the past to hear samples from original Phonograph Cylinder recordings of Béla Bartók from 1909-1910. And the same tunes at Pure DSD 256 recordings of the Attacca World Music Band from 2022.
Béla Bartók worked tirelessly to collect and study the folk music of the surrounding peoples. He looked for ancient, old-style melodies: those that were the most typical of different ethnicities. He found these in peasant communities where, in the early 20th century, people still led a traditional form of life. He also examined how neighboring communities influenced each other’s folk music. From 1909 to 1918 he collected nearly 3,500 Romanian instrumental and vocal melodies.
The music you will hear on Attacca World Music’s Bihar album uses this abundant collection as source material. Our musical interpretations were inspired by the instrumental and vocal melodies that Béla Bartók collected in Bihor county. The album also contains the arrangements of a few Hungarian folk melodies from Transylvanian Hungarians. Folksongs, a shared work by Béla Bartók and Zoltán Kodály, was originally published in 1923. The arrangements combine authentic folk music elements from the Carpathian Basin with our own world music sound.
This is a Pure DSD 256 Stereo album. Available exclusively in its original recorded format of Pure DSD 256 Stereo, as well as Stereo DSD 512, DSD 128, and DSD 64. It is not available on SACD.

Positive Feedback
This is a very special album for those who value folk music of different cultures. Here, the band Attacca World Music has reached back to the original field recordings on wax cylinders collected by Béla Bartók during his travels in Rumania from 1909-1910. The third track is a 15-second recording from one of those cylinders. Additional short selections are sprinkled throughout the album…
The performances are alive, joyful and filled with energy. The combination of instruments (including voice, clarinet, dulcimer, keyboards, double bass, percussion, piano, soprano saxophone, violin) used in Attacca World Music’s arrangements make each song different and engaging. The overall effect has a sense of great authenticity even though many of the instruments are modern. Very nicely done!

This is one of the best albums on this website. Certainly one of the best I’ve purchased on here.
There are so many fun tracks played beautifully and in stunning sound quality. I was very unfamiliar with Hungarian Folk music before listening to this album. I’m now hooked and can’t get enough of it.
I’ve played this for guests at my house who then went to their homes and searched for it because they enjoyed it so much.
