Graduate Nurse Internationally Educated Re-Entry

The Graduate Nurse Internationally Educated Re-entry (GNIE) program is a full time one year certificate program which prepares internationally educated nurses (IENs) for professional nursing practice and licensure in Canada. The program is designed to prepare IENs to practice within the Canadian healthcare system, renew and enhance previously acquired knowledge and skills, identify and address individual needs, ensure graduates meet the professional practice requirements, and enable effective communication skills with patients and colleagues. Upon graduation, students will be eligible to apply for registration with the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals and to write the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX).

Please be advised that applications to this program will only be accepted from Canadian citizens and permanent residents/landed immigrants of Canada.

The Graduate Nurse Internationally Educated Re-entry program is guided by the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). To work as a registered nurse, graduates must meet the required competencies and standards set by the BCCNM. More information can be found at the following links:

Please be advised that all GNIE students are required to maintain a valid CPR Basic Life Support (BLS) or HCP certificate (or equivalent), and are responsible for ensuring it is updated annually. Credentials must be obtained from a first aid provider that follows the current Canadian CPR guidelines using one of the following curriculum providers: Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada, St. John Ambulance, Lifesaving Society, or Canadian Red Cross. All GNIE students are also responsible to be fit tested annually with a medical grade N95 Respirator Mask. Students who cannot provide evidence of current certifications will not be allowed to attend practice experiences until proof of certification can be provided.
